Standardization Activities on AI Powered IoT for Urban Intelligence in ITU-T

Biography

Prof. Gyu Myoung Lee is a Professor at Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor at KAIST, Republic of Korea, and has held research positions at Institut Mines-Telecom, ETRI, KAIST, and NIST, USA. His research interests include Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twin, Blockchain, AI Governance, Computational Trust, Smart Cities, Smart Grids, Big Data Analytics, and Multimedia Networking.

He has actively contributed to international standardization activities, particularly within ITU-T, IETF, and oneM2M. He currently serves as Rapporteur of ITU-T Q16/13 on Trustworthy Networking and Services and Q4/20 on Data Analytics, Sharing, Processing and Management. He has contributed more than 500 standardization proposals and published over 200 research papers in leading journals and conferences.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Internet of Things (AIoT) combines AI technologies with IoT infrastructure to improve operational efficiency, human-machine interactions, and intelligent data analytics. This keynote introduces AIoT concepts and ongoing standardization activities within ITU-T, particularly those related to data analytics, digital twins, and smart cities. The talk also explores emerging challenges of Agentic AI-enabled IoT systems and discusses future standardization directions toward the Internet of Agents and next-generation digital economies.
